Yollocalli Arts Reach- Isai Week 3

Hi guys ,welcome back. This week was short for me due to me missing a couple of days of the week for college orientation. At orientation I learned and got an idea of how the college lifestyle works. As I am going to a university that is really diverse, it is really nerve wracking knowing that most of these people are from places that aren't just Illinois but in other states as well. I picked up some traits that I learned in my Washington week that guided me go thorough my week. I am now more confident on meeting new people and I really am grateful that I am using all these new participation habits in a facility that is not just my internship location. I haven’t been around people my age for weeks so this orientation really made my week. Even if its not my intership, it is my personal highlight of the week.

JULY 17& 18
My college orientation was scheduled in the middle of July because my college major had so many requirements that were all scheduled on the same week. Since I major in Integrated Health Sciences, a major of health and medicine studies, I had to follow a certain orientation specifically for my Major. In my school, science majors have to follow their application process with placement test and additional labs for the school year. Since I am a freshman, I will be taking the college’s required courses first but I had to know what my major provides for me and the additional things I need to know and the type of classes I had to register for. My college orientation isn’t a part of my internship so many details aren’t being mentioned but YAP does play a role because even if I made friends here already, we are still so different and nothing replaces how close I got to our YAP class. YAP really did change me and I feel more confident than my peers. Due to some AP scores and my Spanish Seal of Biliteracy, I advance to 9 credits already and get to exclude some classes for my first semester. Because of this and the meeting with my admission counselor I got to leave my orientation a day early which was good because I got to go home and stay in with my family for the rest of the time. (Science Majors have college orientation and Science Major Orientation/introduction)

JULY 19,
Today I just went to my UIC program’s kickoff event. I am joining “L@s Ganas”, a program for Latinos in STEM at the campus. The program are supporting me and while give me the materials and guidance to have a good first year at campus. They provide guidance, tutoring, and mentorship to first year students, which is exactly what I need because I will finally have the clinical requirements and the materials to get me EMT license (Emergency Medical Technician Basic Certificate) and will need the most help I can in my first semester. Then I went to meet some members of the college fraternity’s I will be participating in.
Me caught off guard in the event kickoff

Afterwards I went to my Yollocali to help around the office. Today was a chill day and all I did was side jobs such as make coffee and collect some paperwork for the office. This was definitely the most stress-free day of the summer.

JULY 20,
So today I was at Yollocalli all day helping take pictures and post things on our social media. The day went by really quick and I was outside for 4 hours recording a time lapse video of our artist painting a mural. Today was also the day our mural was completed, the one I mentioned on the last blog. I will not be showing the full mural just yet but once we present it I’ll show you my small star drawing and how it applies to our mural.

After coming home and taking a long nap from being outside for so long, I then out with my friend and we went to the outlet malls. We took pictures and it was so fun seeing my friend after graduation and we got food and got many stuff from the anime stores. We took pictures and had a little photoshoot and then called it a day. I haven’t seen my friends all summer so seeing them was really fun:))
We did the same pose

This pose was inspired by a pose we found online

JULY 21,
On Friday, I was working on my project the whole day. For my internship I am working on a “ZINE’’ to conclude my final assignment for my internship. I been going to my internship everyday with the exemption of the one and a half day for my orientation so now that I am finishing up, this Zine will be the last thing that will conclude my summer. A zine is like a magazine and a collage combined and its still on the works. Also on Friday, My mom came to Yollocalli with my little brother and they got to see what I have been doing all of July, It was fun showing her around and hopefully Iker-Sebastian (my brother) comes to a class and do something.

That concludes my week, I been really busy lately and I am exited to see what I do next week. I know this week wasn’t much but it still impacts my summer in a way. thanks for sticking out and I’ll see you guys till next time, bye👋 *outro music*
