National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) Internship Week 3- Angel Serrano
NHCC Week 3: Angel Serrano
Monday, July 24th 2023: Day 9
On July 24th, I started work on educational baskets for kids this includes some activities like a scavenger hunt, coloring page, and a color match activity. This was specifically for a group of kids from a daycare that are going to visit the museum this week. I made these baskets by grabbing supplies for the 3 different activities and worked on Canva to create labels that included the location of the basket and the materials for the baskets. Making these baskets I learned how to do some graphic design, laminate paper, make copies and I practiced counting tons of paper.
Tuesday, July 25th 2023: Day 10
On July 25th, I got to the office and Elena told me that she was so impressed by my baskets so much that she wanted me to work on creating more labels. So I went back to Canva creating some more labels and laminated them so they could go on the outside of the baskets. I delivered the baskets to the different areas that they are designated to be at. I then went down with the education staff for our first tour, when the group forgot to show up. Elena then gave me a new task since next week there is another event. She asked me to create a slideshow showcasing some of the clay and ceramic work in the Alienato a Tequila exhibit found in the NHCC museum. I went to the museum and took photos to include in the slideshow and began work on the actual presentation. Everyone then went to Board Meeting where I got to learn about different events, funding, property contracts, and even some laws for the NHCC. After the Board Meeting, I finished my slideshow presentation and talked to Elena about the Board Meeting.
Wednesday, July 26th 2023: Day 11
On July 11th, I started research on different clay techniques. I then met with Stephen who is one of the PR and Marketing people at NHCC to talk about a social media post and potentialy doing a QnA for the newsletter. I went with Stephen down to the museum to take photos, work on creating a graphic for the post, and a description of the Young Ambassadors Program. I then went back on working on the research of different clay techniques and finished researching. I then finished working on the Instagram Graphic and waited for Stephen to send me the photos.
Reflection
This week, I learned a lot of new skills and practiced skills I don't use often like graphic design, laminating papers, copying paper, etc. I also continued to practice my organizational skills. I went to my first Board Meeting ever and got to see things that I typically wouldn't. This to me felt the most like Washington Week from hearing from a Board, Creating a Presentation, and doing things that help me learn.
aww Angel you look like you're enjoying your tasks so much!!!
