Dixon Gallery and Gardens Internship- Week 2
Dixon Gallery & Gardens Internship - Week 2
Day 7- July 13, 2023:
I made 2 documents with 2 pages with both card designs so that they can be printed on both sides. I also started the slideshow for the Meet the Dixons exhibit, where I showcase photographs taken by the Dixons. I planned on having some slides with fun facts to keep the slideshow interesting and maintain attention.

Day 8, July 14, 2023:
I finished the slideshow and returned the boxes of photos to their original spot. I then started to cut the printed cards for the Spanish book club.
Day 9, July 17, 2023:
My original boss had left for vacation so I met my new one. She was the one who was going to give me my outreach projects/ assignments for the rest of the 2 weeks I have left of my internship. I finished cutting the cards for the Spanish book club and was given a new assignment. I had to prepare weather art projects for pre-schoolers. I added sticky dots to the backs of the paper frames and, with the help of another intern, I cut out lightning bolt stickers.
Day 10, July 18, 2023:
We had a "going away" breakfast meeting where a coworker ordered Panera. The food was great but it was also bittersweet since one of the coworkers will be leaving this week for a new job. My new assignment for the day was to translate and record English directions on a slideshow to Spanish. It felt awkward cause no one likes the sound of their own voice, especially when they have to submit it for others to hear. I probably have done at least 5 retakes for each slide. I didn't realize the amount of thought and time you need to take to make sure a translation is not only accurate but universal. The Spanish I speak may not be necessarily understood by other Spanish speakers due to my unique vocab, my flow of speaking, and my pronunciation of the words. However, it filled me knowing that my voice will clear up confusion and bring comfort to those kids that weren't fluent in English.
Day 11, July 19, 2023:
Unfortunately, I couldn't come to work today due to an eye infection. The doctor says I should rest for 2 days but I want to go back to the Dixon as soon as possible. I enjoy working there and feel empty now that I'm temporarily not working. :(
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to D.C. week, I learned to be patient. If I can be patient to eat food, I can be patient to go back to work haha.
Hope you feel better!
